Recently we donated a piece of Sandstone to the GCADF and today we had the pleasure of being apart of the unveiling.
In Memory of I Company – 2nd Battalion – 1st Moreton Regiment
Queensland Defence Force
Following a petition from the 1200 residents in the Nerang district to from a Corps in Nerang, I Company was raised on 6 August 1890.
Commendable parades and training interaction with other QDF units continued for a number of years with Nerang peaking in 1893 at 3 officers and 58 other ranks. Local identity Captain Walter Browne was the Officer Commanding ably supported by Lt. S. Andrews and Lt. J. Vievers.
On parade with G Company Southport in April 1898, with a large number of spectators in attendance, the units were congratulated by Colonel Gunther on their turnout and performance.
By November 1898 the unit had ceased to exist.
